Nostalgia Day
Sep. 30, 2007

Dash plaque given to participants in the show.

By Lynn's count this is the 18th annual Nostalgia Day car show in downtown Livermore, and it is the biggest yet. Lynn is told that about 700 cars registered to participate in the show. About 10 blocks of downtown Livermore were roped off to traffic to provide parking spaces for the participants.

This is the third year that Lynn has participated in the Nostalgia Day show. Although the literature for the event indicates that gates open by 7 AM, Lynn has discovered that you need to get there much earlier to get a choice spot.

This year Lynn resolves to get a good spot on First Street. Weeks before the event he scouts the area. Considering the location of the sun and the weather, Lynn decides he wants to be on the south side of First Street, west of the intersection with South K Street.

Arriving at 3:30 AM, Lynn finds that he's the ninth car to vie for a parking spot. By 5 AM all the spots on First Street are taken. Indeed, one needs to get up pretty early in the morning for a choice parking spot at the Nostalgia Day car show.

Lynn is dressed in his new 1930's golfing outfit. It features black nicker pants, black and white argyle socks, black and white saddle golf shoes, a v-neck sweater, white short-sleeve shirt, tie, and a white cotton golf cap. He's quite a spectacle.

The day certainly seems longer when you get up early. Lynn stays until 4 PM and he's certainly ready to leave after more than twelve hours at the show.

Here's a sampling of the award winning cars at the show.

It must be a difficult job to award prizes at this show as there are so many beautiful cars. Nevertheless, the cars selected for awards were clearly outstanding examples in their varied categories.
