Penny is loaded in Bullet (trailer) for the drive to Morro Bay.
A recent addition to the Bullet is an AACA decal on the rear door/ramp.
|
The show is held at the Inn at Morro Bay, a pretty resort hotel within the grounds of Morro Bay State Park.
|
Lynn and Jeanne are taking Penny to the car show sponsored by the Pacific Southwest Zone
of the OCA (Oldsmobile Club of America).
This show draws Oldsmobile car owners from California, Nevada and Arizona.
It is hosted by the NorCal (Northern California) and SoCal (Southern California) chapters of the OCA.
The show is being held in Morro Bay, a pretty resort town on the Pacific Ocean coast of California
over 200 miles south of Penny's home in Livermore.
Lynn suspects that he could safely drive Penny to Morro Bay for the show, but his confidence in the
reliability of Penny isn't quite high enough to attempt this feat.
So Lynn loads Penny into Bullet and tows them
both behind The Beast.
Bud Dutton's 1948 Club Sedan (right) is the second oldest car and comes from the SoCal Chapter.
Penny (left) is the oldest car in the show and represents the NorCal Chapter of the OCA.
|
The show features over 40 beautiful Oldsmobiles.
Penny (1938) is the oldest car in the show and the only pre-World-War-II example.
The newest car that Lynn saw was a 2003 Aurora owned by Al and Darlene Allande of the SoCal Chapter.
Lynn has a lot of fun showing Penny to the other Oldsmobile owners and visitors to the show.
|
There were over two score beautiful Oldsmobiles at the show. Here are a few that caught Lynn's eye.
|
The Oldsmobile Club of America judging rules segregate car into classes.
Class 1 includes model years 1897-1925, and there were no entries in this class.
Class 2 includes model years 1926-1939, and there was only one entry in this class, Penny.
Lynn volunteered as a judge for the show, and served as an apprentice judge with Larry Ewing,
inspecting the four entries in Class 6 that includes 1955-56 models.
These were fine examples and the 1956 Model 98 Starfire owned by Tom and Joanne Miller from NorCal was
virtually flawless.
Penny wins of "Best in Class" (left) as the only entry in Class 2 (1926-1939).
She is also awarded "Best NorCal Oldsmobile" (left center, center right).
A proud Lynn holds the awards (right).

At the awards banquet, Lynn was pleased but not totally surprised to be awarded "Best in Class" for Penny.
After all, she was the only entry in Class 2, Oldsmobiles of model years 1926-1939.
A much bigger surprise for Lynn is the award of "Best NorCal Oldsmobile" to Penny.
Each year two special awards are presented at the show.
The NorCal Chapter reviews all the SoCal Chapter cars at the show and picks one as the "Best SoCal Oldsmobile" at
the show.
This year Bud Duttton's 1948 Club Sedan was selected for this award.
In a similar fashion, the SoCal Chapter reviews all the NorCal car.
Penny was selected as their choice!
This was particularly gratifying as there were many beautiful cars that qualified for this honor.
Clearly Penny's age helped her secure the award.
Lynn is definitely looking forward to participating in next year's show.
Next year he plans to drive Penny to the show instead of transporting her by trailer.
